This awesome music lacks your awesome artwork Shawn. Really do hope one day this will be re-released complete with album artwork & and it would be super super cool if it came with a colored CD case.

The songs are amazing. Once again, really different from the other 3 albums but I guess it wouldn't be a Matches album otherwise =).

Man!! I really like where you were taking these songs.

VOx in wicked walk as well as the guitar setup rocks. The guitar harmonies in it's my day sound sweet as shit.
nothing's going on has a sweet mix too.
way to go with the lyrics in here's to love!

Amazing, just amazing. It was hard to hit play when I first purchased it because it may be the last of new Matches material...but I listened to it, all day. Thank you so much for making music over the years and giving the world your talent. The Matches are and will be my favorite band, I feel sad that I won't make it to the last show. Good luck with your future, keep at it and don't look back! With the best of wishes

I paid 15. It's not much but it's what I could afford to donate. :] We asked for the music and you guys delivered. I'm continually blown away by the dedication you have to your fans and that's why we are so dedicated to you.
You guys are so amazing, thank you so much for this wonderful last cd...

well just for now, I hope! haha

Thanks more than I can even begin to say,

i'm so happy 'here's to love' is on it, i've been waiting for that song for so long; i haven't been able to find it. i had been listening to 'wicked walk,' 'needs and wants,' and 'it's my day' on youtube a lot, and i put them on my ipod.. so i was worried when the album came out, those three wouldn't be anything new to my ears. but ah, they're wonderful.
however, i'm digging 'nothing's going on' the most right now. i love it. especially since the word 'nothing' has played an enormous role in my summer, not to mention the past so and so years.

If any band deserves to be in debt, it sure as hell isn't you guys. I put in 50 that I couldn't really afford, I don't expect anything back. Thanks so much for the years of music, the friends I've made through your music, and for some of the best times of my life. Thanks.

bit⋅ter⋅sweet

–adjective
1. both bitter and sweet to the taste: bittersweet chocolate.
2. both pleasant and painful or regretful: a bittersweet memory.
–noun
3. Also called woody nightshade. a climbing or trailing plant, Solanum dulcamara, of the nightshade family, having small, violet, star-shaped flowers with a protruding yellow center and scarlet berries.
4. Also called climbing bittersweet. any climbing plant of the genus Celastrus, bearing orange capsules opening to expose red-coated seeds, esp. C. scandens.
5. pleasure mingled with pain or regret: the bittersweet of parting.
Think that sums it up reasonably well...perhaps definitions #3 & 4 not so much withstanding.

Eagerly anticipating whatever's down the road, & hoping you know both the impact of your music and the enduring support it's fostered.

Oh, and "I Tried" is my favorite so far.

Wow. This CD blew me away. I was expecting under-produced demos. Considering the circumstances and the rush of getting it out, this is probably your best album...or at least my favorite. Thank you so much for doing this

These songs make me so insanely happy! I had heard It's My Day live but recorded it sounds unbelievably great! It's got some sweet guitar and it's so different in the best of ways. Thus, the Matches stay true to their word as being "a band as weird as I am".

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Ah fuck it. I thought Nothing Going's On was your best vocally Shawn. I'm trying to finish a review to give to absolutepunk. Not sure if they'll like it though. I'm not the a good writer lolololololol. Hopefully you'll bless me with superpowers enough to make a decent review of a classic record.

I'm guessing this would've been my next favorite Matches album if it wasn't a rarities release. It lacks the superglue that stuck ABIH, Decomp, and E. Von together as a record. But I can't blame anyone if the world's a harsh place to live in.

As for the songs, they are awesome. I don't see a filler anywhere. And each song stands good on its own, as every past Matches song. Dude, you're the greatest underrated musician ever. I hope some of the songs get rereleased for a whole album!!

And thanks for being great. Seriously, thanks. I owe you a whole lot of stuff.

Listened to the new album oh.. 50 times by now? Needs and Wants keeps coming out on top as my favorite, beside Like Yesterday and It's My Day. A Girl I Know will probably be my favorite song beside Sick Little Suicide forever and ever but the new music is great and makes it that much harder to say goodbye to this band.

Question though. What happened to Honest and Anonymous? Saw the acoustic on youtube and I was interested in how that would come out when it was recorded.

Not that I am asking any more from you than you have already given! I feel like all of your fans are so demanding, myself included. It's because your music is like crack, you know that right?

pttttt. ^><^

Keep playing it and keep playing it until my mom wants to listen to elton john. Blasted It's My Day on my way to school thursday. It was our first day.
Ima have to say it's Heres To Love (Love moves like a car crash, love soothes like a whiplash) and I Tried are my fave. Not including Mike, but thats a different story. I'm sorry to see you guys going, but I'm trying to get my sister to take me up there or down to LA next weekend.
:(
Don't wanna say good bye, how do we celebrate going away?
mmmmmmmm.....i feel cheap, i paid 15 cuz my mum didn't want to pay anymore...actualy i think it was 20. But still.
Sadly it's probably my favorite album so far. Seeing as it takes an okay album to be able to listen to and like most of the songs, skipping a few in between. A better album to know everysong with them, but still skipping a few to go to your favorites, but a great album to be listening to and singing along and then all of a sudden My Doe Part 1 is playing and you go "what the fuh?" Cuz you weren't ready for it to be over.

I haven't come by that since Inneuendo.

First off, let me say thank you again for giving us one last album. I think you've started to get the idea that it means a lot to a lot of people. I listened to Album 4 on repeat for most of yesterday and I've got it spinning once again as I write this. It's tough to choose but at the moment, It's My Day and I Tried are my favorites. I can honestly say I love every song though. There isn't a track I feel the need to skip, which is a rare thing for me. This album sounds totally different from your others. It's one of the things I love about The Matches. I can always expect the unexpected. It hurts my heart that there is so much crap-I think that is the technical term, lol- out there and a band like The Matches feels the need to call it quits. :(

I wish I could have paid more than the $10 minimum. I gladly would have done, but I've been out of a job for 3 months and I'm flying to your last show in San Francisco next weekend. So I'm basically hemorrhaging the green stuff. Hah.

Okay...onto the sappy portion. :o I wish I could respond with a song but I only have my meager words. So here goes. I haven't listened to your band for as long as others. Only about 3 years total. I regret that. That being said, your music has come to mean so much to me. Especially in the last year and half. My life has gone through some rough patches, as lives tend to do, and The Matches music has been one of the things that has buoyed me. As silly as that may sound to some. I've rarely had so much fun as I've had at your shows and hanging out with you guys after shows too, especially in the parking lot of HOB Orlando last November. =) I've made some of my best friends in the world because of your music. I am more grateful for all of this than I can put into words. The Matches will forever be my favorite band. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. <3

I'm terribly sad that The Matches are no more, but I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you in your other endeavors.
Here's to new adventures! See you very soon. <3

the album is amazing. i've been listening to it nonstop since i downloaded. (:
i have to admit.. i didn't have access to a credit card at first, and caved, downloading it from somewhere else. ):
but before even listening to that copy, i deleted it, found someone with a card (my parents..), and paid $15 to get it from bandcamp.
it was worth it.
i want to donate more later, if i get a chance. maybe whatever's leftover from the $200 i'm saving for merch at the show on the 23rd? (:

thank you so much for putting this together for all of us. it's such a gift, same as the rest of your music and words and performances and art from the past years.

much love,
rae

I'm resisting the temptation to download it for free somehow, somewhere, cuz if I don't research alternate methods of downloading it, I won't download it without paying, as I won't know how.
Cuz you deserve to be paid for it.
I wish so much that I had money.
I'm so sorry.

I also feel guilty reading comments where people are like "I paid 100", since the only album I actually bought was A Band In Hope, as I was lent the other two and ripped them =S.

Though I did go to one of your few and far between English shows and buy a "What Katie Said" shirt.

And it may not help pay off debts, but, I do love all 4 of your albums, and Decomposer actually beats Taking Back Sunday's "Where You Want To Be" as my all time favourite album.

And that will never change.

So after listening to this album numerous times now I can easily that I love it. It even sounds a little like decomposer at times. (mostly 50 altered states). I kind of wish Honest and Anonymous was on it though, the acoustic video is amazing and i was hoping for a full band version. I can't complain though, because album 4 went above and beyond my expectations, which were very very high.

Hey Shawn,

I just made it home from your LA show; it was a great performance and I will really miss The Matches.

I've also been trying to get the vomiting rainbow T-shirt I saw you sketch on the plane back from Japan a year ago but your merch table was sold out of those tonight! Where can I get one??

And please, pray tell is up with the David Bowie esque? Cuz thats what we all say, but it's just odd, because he was is my fave, not counting Mike. And Im just wandering. Adding the Quee esque of Darkness rising throw the Matches in and I've got my faves...oh...right
