I think I should speak my mind and relay onto you that you're a false prophet. I'm the third revelation. I believe you are infringing on my copyright.
I would very much like to have a normal conversation with you, without groupies sucking your nuts twenty-four seven, to see if your eloquence does indeed know no boundaries. It rather sickens me to hear you speak in such a poetic manner more than half of the time you're speaking. That didn't make much sense, but you know what I meant to say.
In end, I propose you respond in a quick and timely fashion, since your so-called "band" is off for the summer. I know an A List celebrity like yourself shouldn't have much else to call upon during the summer. Thus, I will be awaiting your correspondence.
Cheers, Jill Plainview JPlainview@gmail.com
PS - Do you like My Morning Jacket? I've won tickets when I was attempting to lash out at you on Live105. I've no desire to see them but perhaps it would do better in your possession.
On another note... Is there any chance at all that you'll ever make the video for "Little Maggots"(my favorite Matches song of all time)? I've waited patiently for quite a while and, frankly, I'm getting tired of waiting.I'll keep pestering you until you give me an answer, Mr. Harris.
We both know I love Emily's and your art. It goes without saying; you're awesome in the purest sense of the word.
But I just found the director's cut of the video for "What Katie Said" and I have to officially renew my complete adoration for you. I've watched it three times already and it just keeps getting better.
Wow, I’m pretty bummed out that the Katie video got posted prematurely, and without approval. As in any conflict, the opposition is always the villain and the “me” or “we” always the hero, so in my brief summary of the situation I hope to steer clear of moral titles altogether and just focus on the fact that the video you might have seen this morning is not a product I can yet get behind. There was a rift about standards between us (the Matches) and the director team Lady Ransom who directed the video. The concept for the video was mine and the process and practice theirs. Along the way money ran out, the collaboration fell into disuse, and time stretched, as it does when labor is not backed by rent for those laboring. Salty Eyes took off then, and, not long thereafter, we put out our newest record (ABIH). Slowly we drew upon the favor of a few very talented friends to help us finish the video, on their own time, not knowing that Lady Ransom had pursued completion as well, paying for it themselves at great burden to the director. So the version just released without our consent is the director’s cut. I don’t see it fitting to be specific about the areas of the video that I find incomplete or lacking, but in brief, the video needs more work before it’s one we’re proud to be associated with. This is all difficult to air in public because it overshadows our appreciation to Lady Ransom for their great efforts in finishing the video. There will be other video news this summer, and when the Katie video finally is in a state we’re proud of, then that will be a fun bonus to share with you guys.
Anyhow, that was the detailed version of the situation, for you guys who clearly care to know a little more depth. For the others: In all of the places that the Katie video was leaked to, I wrote this:
Regarding the long overdue What Katie Said video's recent leak-- this version is unfortunately not one that we wish to have released. As it features us and our music, the implication we're not comfortable with, is that it meets our approval. We hope to eventually have a version available that we endorse. Shawn Harris the Matches
Thanks for the update Shawn... As usual, the band's standards are as almost impossibly high as ever! That's what we love, that's what we love...
Now I'm really looking forward to everything new that's coming out this summer. Way to get us all excited...
In lieu of all this video madness, I almost forgot to compliment the Oxen Art works. Every single piece that's up there is absolutely magnificent. Bravo to you and Emily!
I was looking at those illustrations kind of fast and I thought the second one (the one with the cannon "Abandon All Hope:Victims of a mockery") said victims of a monkey. ;)
I feel kind of guilty about the video leak as well. I honestly didn't add much to it though, (which at this point is probably good) seeing as I have only shown it to one other person. I hope that if you do edit this video to perfection, you will release it as you say. Since we, as fans, now know that the video (although good) was not what you had originally had in mind (as you hadn't been able to help with the completion), we can only await a stronger one.
that girl just won't give up on you talking to her in person so she can embarrass herself further.
I look forward to seeing the version of what katie said that you fellows are proud of and I'll add my name to the list of people harping on you for the yankee video. March was a long time ago Mr. Harris, a long long time ago.
Though as an unconsented release, without any noticfication whatsoever by Lady Ransom, I feel as that they maybe wanted to create a bit of talk about the band and maybe more or so talk about themselves. People asking, "Who is Lady Ransom?", "Why did Lady Ransom do this" so on and so forth.
Anyway, don't fret about it dear, even if this wasn't the finished version of the video, without touches that your people made to it, I still thought it was a really good video.
oh and ha, you posted the same thing you said on this blog as on The Matches board too :)
those grimlin things remind me of a dream i had when i was little except the noses were more round and they weren't friendly looking... although that was the first time i had to go through a tv to escape dream danger which reoccured through out my childhood and early pre-teens. so thanks? i guess i don't know? they still give me the creeps
Well I enjoy all pieces you produce with OXEN. Though I'm afraid you have an unfair advantage because i'm a sucker for Victorian/Edwardian styled art. I'm guessing someone had the Edward Gorey ABC's growing up, or perhaps just a huge Burton fan, both admiral in my book. Love the work and how you bring an older fashion into the next millennia as it where. An here is something I'd like to share that nobody should not be with out.

Steve from Abandin All Hope sent me this on MSN this morning. Good work. Good work.
and the video for yankee in a chip shop?

Anyway, 'imminent'.
That makes me excited.
And everything else ranges from good to great.
people keep ragging on your credibility.
imminent, sounds good
bravo, oxenfolk
;)
i like the she & him artwork
and the biffy clyro artwork makes up for the fact that pittsburgh had no acoustic on ap tour.
Hmmm...interesting.
On another note...

All this new work is exciting...just as exciting as seeing the What Katie Said video(!). That really made me smile.
Haha, somehow your part at the end seems like such a Justin Timberlake music video moment. Kudos nevertheless. It's an awesome vid.
=)
But 'JT' usually gets the girl?
Haha.
We both know I love Emily's and your art. It goes without saying; you're awesome in the purest sense of the word.

So, uh, where's the Yankee video, Shawn darling?
very, very, very nice.
the video is wonderful but somehow i doubt it was a planned release...i could be wrong
wow
that biffy clyro mountains drawing, thats magnificent.
Hahaha, imminent. That made my day.
...along with the What Katie Said video, and this fantastic artwork.
Hmm. I've had a pretty great day.
Oh, and also. I've decided that if my book I'm currently writing ever gets published, I'm going to try really hard to get you to design the cover.
So yeah.
Oh man. The What Katie Said video made my freaking day. Wonderous :)
can't wait for chip shop, though!
The Biffy Clyro Mountains artwork is stunning. Same with Zebrahead. You've got great vision, your artwork just continues to impress!
You did the artwork fo She and Him? That's frakking awesome!
WHAT a video.
wow.
haha my best friend is called Katie so the first thing i did was call her and tell her.
that is magic.
YES YES YES!! I cant wait for yankees!!
Shawn your a genious!!

Well, now I feel like a jerk.

regardless of your quarrel its still nice to see SOMETHING.
my favorite is "the Kid has class" one.

I guess I probably shouldn't have posted the link to that video then. Sorry babe, my bad.
oh yeah.
they put the website back up,
http://www.myportalbuilder.com/thematches/aboutus.htm
Eh, I figured there had to be something wrong with it because I didn't hear the great hallabaloo with it that I heard with Salty Eyes.
In any event, perfect or imperfect, it was still a nice treat to watch Jon dance. And Matt raising his eyebrow was glorious.

PRIG PILES
.piles of hissing prigs in static couture.
There are many great bands.
But a band is only as great as what they do.
But in order for a band to become great,
they muct first be noticed.
And when noticed, they must know,
exactly what they came for.
It doesn't matter who they are noticed by.
