Release Date

There’s a superstitious tradition of going to the record store on release day to buy one’s own record. The thought is, if you won’t buy your own record, who will?

Here is the direct link to buy A Band In Hope on itunes.

Despite part of band's sudden lust for Avenged Sevenfold and the possibilty that the compact disc is going the way of the dinosaur and critical thinking...I went to Best Buy to purchase a tangible copy of your record. It's much better than the invisible leak. I just want to know who was responsible for the celebratory sticker of weirdness on the shrink wrap. I was thinking of putting your sound between Say Anything and QoTSA but then I said fuck it. You guy are The Matches and I am sure you won't forget.

We Ended up in the mall at Hot Topic.
Because, though the clothes kind of make me laugh, they do have Cds I can't find at Best Buy.
Which Where I went first.
What Losers not to have you.

I lovelovelove the New CD.
I carried it around the first two hours I had it.

I love Matt Whalen. A friend and i were talking about how A Band In Hope is Whalentastic.

But i definitely bought the album. I actually bought two because i felt i had to yesterday. I think A Band In Hope has a Catcher In The Rye effect on me, not the murders or conspiracy to commit them mind you! Just the inspiration and when you see you feel as if you have to buy it.

A Band In Hope beat out my favourite album of all time to take that title. When i bought it, i was shaking, and when i listen to i was blown away. I would rave about much i LOVE and ADORE it, but i would have no clue where to start.

Wasn't there a video of you guys trying to find one of the albums (Decomposer maybe? maybe?) and they didn't have it? It must be old or nonexistant, due to the fact that my memory of a video of it is certainly blurred.

Now then,

I play this hilarious game of going to/phoning every store in the northwest of England and asking them to order me in a copy of your CD, when I get mine (which I already have, well... I'll have two, I won the AP contest too but that doesn't count), I'll get tons and tons of phone calls telling me that this shop now has it in stock for me. I tell them "Oh, I have it now, sorry", and they just put them on the shelf.

It works brilliantly, I did it with Decomposer but with less stores, this time at least 12 shops have phoned me, I did way more shops than that, though, so expect more.

I tried going to the store yesterday to get the new CD(maybe because it sold out?), but I couldn't find it anywhere.
Needless to say, I was bummed.
I had to have the record store order it in, so now I have to wait at least a week to get my copy. Dammit. It better be worth the agonizing wait, Shawn.

I'm curious as to what this album 'tastes like'. I have my copy, but am waiting for a review comparing something like vaginas to big mac's again (I like all the albums, and don't think any of them taste like vagina- unless you like that... then that's cool). It is again different from the last two, but then again, that's always good. Congrats and keep 'em coming.

Blogger Marena said...

I'm still waiting for mine in the mail...the suspense is killing me. I wandered over to Amazon to see if anyone else besides myself had left a review, and someone did. The fact that said someone wrote, "The lyrics are kinda bland. " about From 24C, and, "Kinda throw away. Not special at all." for Proctor Rd. made me want to vomit on my computer screen. Those are definitely two of my favorites on the record.
I think you guys more than outdid yourselves, I couldn't ask for anything better. Everything I heard surprised me, but at the same time, I sort of expected it...if that makes sense. There are so many little details that just make my brain sort of melt, and as for your voice, it's outstanding. Again, there's a lot of beauty in the details, I'm glad I have to sit and really listen to get the full effect, that's the best kind of music.

I bought it yesterday! yay! It was hard to find it because the store I usually go to changed its name and I couldn't find it in the phone book... But then I thought "Fuck it! If they don't have A Band In Hope then they shouldn't be calling themselves a record store!" So then I got there and all the new releases were in a totally different area. So I walked around for like 15 minutes... and I started to freak out. But then I found A Band In Hope.

It's amazing. Jeeze. Clouds Crash is my new favorite song.

WOW.

how surreal to see you boys in such a commercial, everyday environment, with Avril Lavigne squeaking away in the background.

I don't own the CD yet. Just to make up for it, I'll pick up a second copy when it comes out and give it away to a friend/seemingly approachable stranger. Then I'll help to put out the next flaming orphanage I see, just to chalk up some more karma.

Congrats on the album release and the video!

So I went to HMV yesterday to buy A Band In Hope, and it was right out front under the new releases. I was expecting it to be under The Matches section, since they ususally only put the top 20 stuff under new releases, but there it was. :) So, congrats! Anyway, the cd is amazing! I absolutely love it.

I come home, I run to the mailbox...
Then BAM!...not there.
Rather depressing.
I haven't been shopping yet but I'm sure it's sold at Best Buy here because it was the only store that carried E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals and Decomposer. So, if I don't get the pre-ordered copy with the t-shirt soon... I'm going to go to Best Buy. =^]
I'm dying to hear it though.

Your laugh was GREAT. >.< I laugh like that too. Rather embarrassing when you're laughing at something horribly inappropriate... like how something horrible happened... >.> not that I've ever laughed at anything like that...<.<
And, just to point out... Matt smiled. =^]

So I went to best buy today, and i found out they don't know what good music sounds like because i found albums by 50 cent and "Danity Kane" in the new release section and when i asked if they had "A band in hope" the employee typed in "abaden hope", so I had to sound out the whole thing for him and the only best buy that had the 2 copies I wanted was miles away. I'll try to find another store before I have to order both copies online

so, i live in bismarck, north dakota. we are extremely deprived when it come to good music. so i was not suprised when i could not find your cd yesterday. after verbally attacking the people at target i remembered that we just got a best buy. after rushing to the store i fruitlessly searched the "m"s for your cd and after coming up empty handed i proceeded to verbally abuse them as well. don't worry though, i didn't give up. they assured me that they had one in the store because it was in their system. i eventually found it stuck in the middle of a stack of matisyahu cds. not where i expected it to be but i was happy to see it nonetheless.

that long rant aside, thanks for this album, it is amazing. now if i could just see you guys in concert i would be golden.

Got mine on Tuesday at HMV:)
I even went on the Saturday before to make sure they would get it.
Completely worth the $19.20 it cost me.
I'm pretty sure they only stock one at a time though cause when I went, I got the only one and I went back on Wednesday so I could show my friends and they still only had one (which I moved to the 'punk' display so everyone could see it;])

I got mine on saturday from JB Hi Fi and there was at least 10 copies on display, i was quite surprised as they don't usually put out that many at a time. they weren't even all under the Matches, there was this abandoned pile sitting on top other cds for seemingly no reason.
i chose my cd based on the sole fact the jacket had been put in sideways and then had the shrink wrap put on
i thought i was getting something special
turns out it was just a runt

Ok, so I danced until Yankee In The Chip Shop, then I put it on repeat and did everything I needed to do while screaming the words... =^]
Just so you know... I'm speechless. It's to amazing to put into words. Sure, there is the internet version... but the hard copy cd is so much better. I've been trying to find the words since I listened and can't.

waaaa... i'm sorry for downloading the leaked version!

the only possible way for me to buy an album is a plane ride to wherever that is! i guess i'll start saving today and probably arrive there within a year or three. plane tickets are hard to buy these days(that is if you live in a place where no one else knows the greatness of The Matches because they're too busy crying in one corner of the room or they're too busy doing the soulja boy - spellcheck!)

well 'til then, i'd live a normal life doing my daily routine. but when i get my hands on that leprechaun on the other side of the rainbow guarding a pot of the matches merchandise, i'd still live a normal life. the only difference would be - DeadAtDream Is OWNING! ^_^

oh and i will do some good deeds! hope indeed!

You can’t imagine my joy when I found out that CDON has your record. And how I cringed when I remember I’d made a promise: “If I find a store that sells A Band In Hope I swear I’ll effin’ buy seven copies!”

I’ll keep my word though.

One record for me, one for my lil’ bro (just because he coughed up his last money so he could join me on the trip from Sweden to London to go to your concert there), one for my mom (who has been nagging about getting one endlessly) and the rest I’ll just give to friends. Because, honestly, I could never find better birthday presents for them, right? ^-^

I guess that that, combined with flying to London just to see you guys play and buying a t-shirt, makes up for downloading the leaked version? I sure hope so because I’m very, very broke now. Don’t worry, it’s worth it. (And I’ll get more money soon anyway.) = ]

I feel a bit guilty... I was unable to purchase the Album on the release date. I came very close to downloading the thing. But I stood my ground and waited until I arrived back in the States. It was well worth it. I got shivers letting the music surround me in the car on the way home. In the past three hours I have used the album to recruit two more fans.
I just thought I would let you know that I have been a follower since the early E. Von Dahl days(which is rather odd considering I am very selective when it comes to current music). You all never cease to amaze me, whether it be clever music videos or extraordinary music.
Well anyways the diversity of this album reinforces my respect for you and makes me proud to call myself a The Matches fan.
Though you may not even read this, I hope you know of the impact you have made on my own and many others' lives.
Thanks for the sounds.

Sincerely,
Just another one of your fans

Have you ever considered writing a musical?

March 24, 2008 8:54 PM

Shawn, Please Read

I was just curious if I could use clips from most, if not all the tracks off of A Band in Hope in a short film I have to do for school. I am in a high school video creation class and My final is coming up soon. A main rule is I can not use music that I don't have permission to.

You see, I just listened to the album completely focusing on the lyrics and saw a story go on in my head. I would love to make it for my final.

This video would only be seen by my friends that would be working on it, my parents, and my teacher. It would NOT go on you tube or anything of the sort.

So what I am asking is: Is there any way you can agree to not sue me for using your music?

I know this is a long shot but I thought it would not hurt to try.

If yes

Sitting next to Jon while you guys played the acoustic set in Pomona, I was wondering: at what point do you stop being a regular person and become an actual "celebrity"?

It's sadly pathetic that celebrities (the Matches) have the uncanny ability to reduce perfectly normal people (me) into groveling, soma-drugged fools.

I'd hate it if feet become too big for shoes and gates are set up to keep fans back though.

I just wanted to say your show in Seattle was the best I've ever been to (not just the Matches, I mean best show of my life), and I am so so greatful for it.

So thank you.

I wish you guys could have stayed to chat but I understand you had a plane to catch. Good look on the rest of the tour.

Shawn-first off, thanks for the show in Salt Lake, I really needed it. Second, where is Yankees? If you keep taunting us like this with videos, we're going to stop believing you. Just please give us some news on it, please. Don't leave us hanging on a thread. thanks

The video for Yankee is finished (maybe something still needs to be added, or that's already taken care of, it was a few weeks ago Shawn showed it to me). However, the video is effing brilliant, and remember; "den som väntar på något gott väntar aldrig för länge". Which basically means that good things come to those who wait.
