AP Cover Photo

This is where a photo of our band on the cover of AP magazine might have gone had I not thought better of twirling baton in my own parade. --->[ ]
Damn. I've realized modesty here is just an outfit. I'm not in a modest mood, just self aware, which is more vain than just putting up the picture in the first place.
.
.
.
I've rationalized my action: I'll delay putting up the picture until next month, or maybe the month after, when the prize is a mere memory. I'll say "Hey! Remember?" and we'll all look with glassy eyes and tuck our lips into the bit around our lips and make horrid dimples we feel cute behind. Except now that I've forecasted all of this, maybe you won't make those dimples (which I love, even if they are a bad idea!) and you will roll your eyes, because you've caught me posing behind this plot as well. It's like you've walked in on a family rehearsing their America's Funniest Home Videos submission of a lawn chair breaking under Grandma's ass while a tether ball hits Uncle in the nuts. "No, grimace more! Little Timmy, hold your hand up to your mouth while Uncle writhes in the grass! Yes! That's it-- okay Stradelmans, last take...and.. action!"

You should be proud of the cover, even if it does mean everybody reinacting what you've said once your ready to post the picture.
I reshuffled the APs in my local bookstore so all The Matches cover ones were in front.More Matches awareness is needed in my town.

Take that as you will.

(I see it as a compliment, personally).

I, like Jennifer, put all of AP mags with you guys on the cover in the front of the stand, as my friends stood there shaking their heads pretending they had no idea who I was.

I am loving the new album! I was waiting for March 18th, but then you went and posted it all on your myspace and I couldn't help it!

Quite sure you'll win our adulation despite our, or if I stand alone in this, my suspicions of your occasional pretensions. I hear truly honest people don't appear when photographed anyways.

Eye rolls aside, look forward to the picture.

At the UW-Madison bookstore, I found a stack of 6 APs right out in front (they are usually tucked away) and The Matches were on the covers of all of them! Not like others sold out, I think yours were the only ones stocked. They never have more than 6 at once.

So anyway, it was cool that you guys were out in front of the other music magazines!

That is all.

For another opportunity to be self-aware, you should check out digmagonline.com and see who made their cover this month.

I dont I have ever seen an AP mag here in Australia..
ever...
Well at least in my area.
If I do see one though I promise to put the mag at the front of the stack.

Oh by the way...
I just wanted to say you guys were freaking awesome at soundwave in perth.
Too bad you wont come back for another like, 45 years....no one ever does :(..to perth that is.

Meeting you was soo awesome.
I still have the sweat soaked Matches shirt that I bought from the merch.
I wont wash it.
Why I hear you ponder?
Because I hugged you while wearing it.

Not stalky at all!

I think the new front cover is really good. I mean, though it makes you all look slightly like cartoon characters, I guess that the editors of AP maybe wanted to put you across in a fun way, hopefully not making you look like nothing more than a mass consumerated pop band... of which you're not.

Shawn, I loved your band's AP cover. I thought that it was beaut.=] You guys should've been on the cover sooner though.

Now, I have a serious question here. Does Matt ever smile? I've never see that guy smile.

The cover was incredibly well deserved, and something that should have happened a while ago.
You have complete rights to be proud of it.
Congratulations.

By the way, what happened? I kept checking back here for the past...3 weeks, and no new entries past 'boston' showed up, and by the dates that people are posting, I'm assuming that I'm not the only one.

PS; to Booger and Marie, smiles tend to always be cuter on people who don't typically smile. ^_^

Well, Shawn, there are necessary fascades that one must grin and bare. Things like posting a photo that was doctored for public adoration become the evils you have to smile for. "Nice picture!" smile. "You guys look SO hot" smile. "It looks posed" smile."

As for modesty, why contain it? Be modest, feel modest. ou guys do great work! Soak it up, smile it out. It's what your fans want. (I wouldn't be such a fan if you were self-centered and irritating: "Yeah, that's us! We're fucking AMAZING")

I don't think I'm portraying myself corrctly, I'll try again later (the words are buzzing too loudly).

I was standing, all soaked up in rain, in the student center's groccery store at MIT during lunch break for a high school study program thing, all upset over having walked 40 minutes just to find out that the cafe I wanted to go to was the other way down the road, pissed off at the ungrateful cab driver that was screaming at me for making him loose his spot to drive me back down the street before my hour lunch break was up, when I saw it. Standing in line turning my orange into a watery orb when I saw the cover on the newstand next to a Yankee Magazine. Needless to say, it sure as hell put a smile on my face.
Also, Justin looks like Harry Potter because the white flag blends into the background, creating a wand effect.

I can't find a just The Matches cover... I got that bogus one where everyone on the AP tour is on the cover... But what is in there is pretty amazing. =^]
I will find the one of just you boys as soon as I possibly can. =^]
I have seen it though. BEAUTIFUL! =^D
And I have a picture that I found on one of my random picture seeking adventures of Matt smiling! Like... 3 of them! AND I have seen 2 videos... and I think he's grinning in the pic of me and him... *ponders* None the less, I have some if anyone wants to see them. I will share. There is one where Shawn and Jon are doing something with Lotion... O.o Teehee.
And I was very happy to see that someone else was having the same problem as me. I would come everyday and it said that that Boston post was the last one and I was like "...what happened to the one with the video of the matches in trees?!?" and now, I know the answer... stupid computer.

I've talked much to much but it is simply because I missed this blog. =^]

I'm currently on the myspace page... soaking up a few songs. Not all though! I must save some of them from my cd that I preordered. =^D

I have that magazine, and I squealed with joy every time I turned the page and was greeted with a miraculous full page The Matches graphic. I thinkk, that the magazine coupled with the myspace exclusive should get you the kind of popularity your band deserves. mmhmm

I'm going to be kind of sad when the band gets unapproachable though. I hope you guys don't let fame change who you are.

Shawn gloat!
Whatever being that maybe in a cloud watching civilization run around like ants knows that The Matches being on the cover is not only long over due but completely deserved!
Though another may think it a bit audacious, what would be satisfaction of an accomplishment if one did not relish in it for a time?
Your modesty and honesty is very refreshing, but it's about time you bask in your achievements, Shawn.
The award is announced, the spotlight is shining, and everyone is waiting for you to take the crown, make the speech, and soak up the glory you deserve, Prom Queen.

I don't see it as a vanity to wave a flag in your own parade; I see it as self pride. right now I’m personally a "memosexual" in which causes me to be totally in love with myself and until I meet someone that can offer me something more than I can offer myself then I will still be bragging about myself when I achieve something I just won’t be kissing my mirror, I love myself but it can never be [seeing how I can never kiss myself on the lips without looking like I’m trying to eat my face].

I like the AP cover.
Are those your silk pajamas Shawn?
I also think Jon looks like a video game character, bad angle perhaps? nonetheless the better of the 4 cover shots :D
I also admire the scattered array of sinks, drinking fountains and bath tubs..reminds me of that elementary school rhyme with the baby eating all the soap and "he tried to eat the bathtub, but it wouldn't go down his throat" and then the mother summoned the doctor, the nurse and the lady with the alligator purse.

oh and those pants with the old license plates on them? freaking awesome. I want a pair.

hey i read this review online from a show in orgeon with matchbook romance probably 5 years ago, im not sure

"Following up was MBR?s Epitaph labelmates, The Matches. Hailing from the Bay Area, the band was certainly full of energy, bouncing all over the stage. However, the fan reaction was pretty restricted. There was a lot of jumping and bouncing in the crowd but it was the middle school crowd doing it. The kids that were confused by Bleed The Dream, are the kids that were rocking out to The Matches.

Adorned with easily more makeup than any girl in the crowd, frontman Shawn Harris delivered his snotty toned lyrics, as the band ripped through its debut EP E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals. Surprisingly enough, this may have been the longest set of the night, which needless to say had the young ones tickled pink."

i wonder what this fool has to say now

what? no fanfare for wake the sun?
I was expecting lavish announcements and parties with little gifts of jordan almonds that almost everyone throws away unless they are old or have never had a jordan almond before but all that happens is I wake up on a Thursday after making tough decision of not going to school on account of the Obama rally that was scheduled and then canceled at penn state today and see this lonely little video on my friends page on livejournal. It was both a sad and happy time. Now I must go make myself productive so that I at least look like I'm not just randomly skipping school.

Okay Shawn, gloat. The Wake the Sun video is truely gloat worthy. And multiple people have mentioned how gloriously artistic it is. And this begs a question: did you just sit outside with a camera waiting for the appropriate shots of birds to occur? A silly notion, but an honest question.

Shawn, in the Wake the Sun video (which I honestly did immensely enjoy), it took till about halfway into it till it looked like you meant it. I mean obviously live and all that you guys all look completely into it and that's perfect, and that is what makes me love you guys so much. It seems like you really do believe the words you're saying, and your expressions and movements set that free. But, somehow in this video I didn't really get that feeling until much later in the video. It feels like at about 1:45 it starts to build up then finally it feels completely honest by the end.

Maybe that was purposeful?

And by no means am I saying the video is bad, in fact it's one of my favorite videos that have come out for the past few months. I'm just curious to see if that was an intentional build up or it just happened naturally?

You crack me up.

Do compliments make you slightly uncomfortable?
Because part of you feels that you do rightly deserve them,
But you wonder, if you assume this does it make you less deserving of a compliment?

Is it possible you did this because you knew that you were going to get flooded with praise and glory for the cover. So instead of posting the picture you said something to come off as humble and witty. That way you could feel more justified when the flattery began?

I'll let you pretend that you aren't secretly basking in the glory.
