personally, i though the song was brilliant.

Some people just don't know amazing songs when they hear them.
Two things: I SWEAR I did NOT take artistic liscense with those 5 posts on livepulse.com, though if you go to the site, they do now rave about the song using opposite syntax to the original posts! I'm so befuddled. I'm thinking we have an unknown friend monitoring their comment boards or something. The comments on my blog are a direct copy>paste of what was originally on livepulse. Whoever changed it probably wanted to increase the traffic to the video and make us in the band feel fuzzy for playing them an unreleased track...
I got more excited when the opinions were more polar though, and I think in the end, that would drive more traffic to the video. On opinions, I tend to philosophise like Milissa and Robin just wrote.

I don't know why but the whole time I was watching the video I was thinking of simon and garfunkel! HAHA Maybe It was just because there were two men playing acoustically, but I seriously got simon and garfunkel-esque vibe. And that doesn't mean that I think its a bad song. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The K-AH things were a little weird though, but I can deal with it!

While searching for a version of this video that I could share with my friends, I came across the song "Gonna Build A Mountain" by Polly Bergan. I thought I should state that her song has the same principle, but is based on optimism, while the contrary is conveyed through your song. Your song views the world through pessimism, and, in turn, provides a more realistic view of our problems.
it seems like these people who didn't like it didn't take into account that it's a brand new song being played by two guys in a trailer with no effects whatsoever. i think once you get into the studio with it, the song will be great

i must say... "to build a mountain" is now my favorite song basically because of the amazing lyrics. the depth of emotion, philosophical inquiries, and wordplay make it stand out among previous songs. obviously some people cant appreciate it. those are generally the people who might think of 50 cent as a lyrical genius with such hits as "candy shop" or "magic stick". because it takes a lot of higher thinking to analyze the extended metaphor of "i'll let you lick my lollipop".
Why am i feeling some sort of "Follow the lights home" Aura?
Well, for now, only time can tell.

When I saw the comments for the video last night, they were the negatives ones you later posted on your blog. I was in SHOCK when I saw the comments later saying "good good good" when I KNEW for a fact that they didn't say that last night. I remember seeing them because they were right under the video and I scrolled down to look for the more positive ones.
I'm really just as 'befuddled' as you because then I thought I was going nuts and I was just too tired last night.
So thank you for clearing that up. I actually thought you changed their comments on livepulse to the ones there now. Because I knew that I couldn't have possibly been THAT tired.

Okay so everyone doesn't think I'm a hater. I have been a matches fan since I saw them at thursday in the square in buffalo with zebrahead. Which was many years ago.
I really don't like this song after the first listen. But I'm sure it will grow on me with time.
The matches don't have a style, or anything that a listener can get used to. After EVDKTL, everything changed. The matches became a totally new band. Nothing they do now will sound like EVDKTL because they aren't 18 years old anymore. So to compare these new songs to EVDKTL wouldn't be smart.
I think that saying people hate the song could just be a way to get people to be like "aww poor guys, I really like this unusual, weird, matches song" but what do i know? I just know that..I don't like the song yet.

I have listened to this about a million times now and I am very much in love with it-it eventully grew on me. The opening chords=amazing. Don't fray, there will always be those who don't appreciate its brilliance.

i think that the reason it had a negative first reaction was because perhaps the audience best intellectually fit to understand and appreciate the song will not be found at warped tour.
people will dismiss it because they would much rather listen to another song about heartbreak. dont get me wrong, we all love a good heartbreak song. but as a fan for many years its a joy to watch your music grow to a standard of higher meaning than say, your popular bands of today.
