SALTY EYES
the video. Directed by myself, Emilee Seymour, Michael Coleman, and the Wizard Miles Hurwitz. A higher-than-youtube-quality version will be posted as soon as possible, but we can hold the cat in the bag no longer. If you enjoy, please forward your friends a link to the vid: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7_7xWNUqxxI
We shot the video on a bread and water budget, collecting the 50-odd tv sets/VCR's from various recycle centers, scrapyards, thrift stores, and friends. Jon and I actually took a class on internal wiring of TV sets to learn how to fix and hotwire the sets with severed cords or bad picture tubes.
Suffice it to say, I am proud of this video like a father (or should I say, a DILF?)

Ah. So THAT is what became of the old television sets/computer screens... I must say, I am impressed. I take it there was a lot of heavy lifting involved? Glad to see you have bestowed the coveted title of DILF upon yourself as well...
Cheers.

Good morning,
I would like to inquire as to if this piece was shot Digitally or on film? if film 35mm? Just one more is the output on the televisions actually played through VCRs or CG(comp. graph.) added?
Salutations,

That's amazing! Lol! Love the whole concept. Brilliantly done! ;)
We shot digitally. The graphics on the TV screen word graphics were on VHS machines duct taped to each TV, and the shot is a continuous one, so we rehearsed the choreography for almost a week before shooting the take, because since the TV's broke upon impact with the floor, we only had one chance to get it right.

wow , The first thing I thought when I saw this was that it must have been a high budget to break so many tv's , so well done on fooling me .
must say well worth the hard work and the wait
kudos to you boys !
double kudos
wow....thats very creative now i see what the old television sets were for!! Can't help but wonder how sore everyone's arms must have been the next day. =) xo
A continuous shot...very impressive. It's a great video, and I can't wait to see it on TV.
It's a rather amazing video, at first thought, i assumed it was high budget. But then I remembered that a while back on a bulletin you guys posted asking for donated old televisons or computers.
& i also love how everyone throws or drops them, but Matt just holds his. hahahh.
ohhhh i have been waiting so long for one video.
this is amazing.
what a wonderful video. i love it.
What an awesome idea! I can't believe you did a continuous shot...that's impressive. Creative, amazing, kind of bizarre...but had we expected anything different? ;-)
Wow, that's incredible. I'm amazed that nothing (or at least, very little) went wrong through all that. Oh well, still, that's amazing ht you guys pulled that off in one continuous shot.
Thanks for posting that up, Shawn.
-S!
This video is brilliant. It isn't complicated like you see from most music videos these days. Having it be a continuous shot made it a lot cooler. i posted a blog to show all my friends this video. haha
-matt the mitch
The video turned out great, well worth the wait to see it. I hear rumors that Epitaph is going to try to get you guys on MTV. The exposure is good, but MTV is shit. Oh, and DILF? Someone sure thinks a lot of himself, though I can't say I disagree.
astounded as usual...
I really like the video. I love how Matt never breaks anything reminiscent of the higher "music video" you guys did. Sometimes I wish I could just break things but I'm pretty sure my family would frown upon me smashing the televisions.
Anyways....
Keep up the amazingness!
♥KatieB
this is my favorite video that you guys have ever done.
hey take street to nowhere on tour sometime so i can see you both again. the east coast misses you.
youre definately a dilf shawn.
1. three cheers for DIY classes.
2. continuous shot = superb.
- reminds me of parts of children of men, but with televisions instead of bullets and bodies.
3. thank you for posting it, no matter the quality.
very impressed.. great concept:)
it seems like you had plenty of fun, what about the other videos? are we gonna see them anytime soon?
I'm going to have to agree with everyone. I love it! Very original.
And yes your definatly a DILF ;)
without sounding cheesy and/or over zealous, that is a very beautiful video. it's a gorgeous concept...
lol.
very cool <3.
xo
It's really cool. I like how it's sweet and angsty at the same time
I really like the concept there. It's simple and beautiful. Congratulations.
I love it! It looks so simple and straight forward, but of course, still amazing! Nice job guys!
Congrats on being a DILF, you silly silly man <3
I ment that in the best way possible haha
its amazing, I love it
Wow, what a wonderful thing to wake up to! Well waking up earlier anyway...
That's amazing though! I love the shadowy lighting and dream like blue tint to everything. I'm really trying to figure out how you guys do just about everything great.
You should be very proud.
I love Matt's role in this too haha.
Are you guys getting used to doing somewhat strenuous activites wearing suits, and dress shirts yet ? Haha.
Oh, and DILF ? I think even just the last few frames of this confirms it. Hahaha.
Very nice to finally see, to say the least.
:)

Oh, I love the continuous shot of it too. I think it matches (Haha) the song well.

I can't wait to see the higher-than-youtube-version either by the way. :)
I love it!This is one of my favorite songs so its exciting to see it come to life in such a creative way...but I hope you guys didnt hurt yourselves...those old TVs are especially heavy...
WOW! You do not know how much it killed me being at work all day knowing that this video was posted. I could not wait to get home to watch it. It is absolutely wonderful and totally lives up to all of my expectations for The Matches. I love your music and I think that you guys are great but it is the creativity that you put into everything that keeps me coming back for more. I know there is always going to be something new and innovative on the horizon.
Keep doing what you're doing!
What an amazing video! Just the idea of it all, the tvs, wonderful. The idea is so simple, yet so magical, no thats not the word. Well I am blown away.
I must say I absolutely love this video and this band <3<3<3<3<3
I love it Shawn...I've been waiting so long for a new video to come about, one question though...what ever happened to What Katie Said??, are you still in the works with everyone and Amy on that video??...pictures I've seen so far are amazing...dude gotta love the crow wallpaper, anyway...any set date for that video to appear?? Well I love the new video, the song, you guys...the suits...but what is your hatred towards TV, what has it ever done to anyone...but make us fat, lazy and uneducated...what's wrong with that...haha...just kidding, I loved it...ttyl
Amazing. I can't wait for you to finish "Little Maggots". See you soon!
You boys never cease to amaze me, and hurling those televisions (and VCRs) around must have been quite a work out for the old arms.
I like how it's not some crazy video with a billion different things going on, it's nice and simple.
Although I'm sure actually executing it in a single shot was all but simple.
But regardless, it came out well, good job.
DILF yeah for sure
i think its kinda funny, actually its not that funny but if you watch at the end and you see justin carrying the "drag" tv set and he drops it looks liek he must of dropped it on his toe because it looks like hes going to say FUCK! but he doesnt.
poor kid. he didnt any breaks in this video.
hey man i love your vid
You don't know howww long I've been waiting for this video!!!!!!!!! haha and I'm so happy you used my word. (DILF) I love you guys so much. This video is so much more than amazing.
I liked the video. It was simple, yet it worked perfectly for the song. Good work boys!
p.s I would also agree with the DILF status you have chosen to give yourself, Shawn.
love the new blog design. except your signature is now huge.
I love it, Shawn. I watched the old one you based it after; great modern version.
I believe I saw a comment that said something about getting the vid on MTV... followed up by a derrogatory comment about MTV.
...I concur.
This video is kind of really wonderful. You and your band make me ridiculously happy. (...especially that you're not on MTV.)
DILF is definetly an understatment. ;)
