Nihilistic Thesaurus.com

While writing some lyrics today and browsing thesaurus.com for synonyms for "tomorrow", I came across an amazingly telling perspective of the website which personified and endeared it to me beyond belief.

My song now croons "I can't wait to see you not at any time, forget it, no way, nevermore." There is nothing to properly convey that I am laughing aloud as I'm typing this.
(nice, I might add, to find that the religious right and neo-conservatives haven't bought up EVERYTHING in this country quite yet.)

Wow, that's slightly negative and depressing of them..

P.S. I can't tell you how glad I am that you didn't say 'lol'. Thank you dearly.

You have an intelligent mind, and I am infatuated with it. You are amazing, and I am intoxicated, so I will probably not remember this post.

I guess you learn something new every day...even if it is a very cynical fact.

P.S.-thesauruses are my best friends.

I love how I get to learn new words with you everytime you write an entry, it's like "shawn harris and the new word of the day" (like sesame street but so much better)

and about that song...I thought you wanted to SELL records? jk. it sounds AMAZING! Breathtaking! astonishing! awe-inspiring! awesome! exciting! hair-raising! heart-stirring! impressive! magnificent! moving! overwhelming! spine-tingling! stunning! thrilling!

PS. After countless hours of research about why your record isn't selling, I have come up with some things I think we should discuss. Actually most of it all kind of came to me in a dream but...i sleep for long amounts of time. But in all seriousness, I think we should talk.

PSS. It could be AMAZING! Breathtaking! astonishing! awe-inspiring! awesome! exciting! hair-raising! heart-stirring! impressive! magnificent! moving! overwhelming! spine-tingling! stunning! thrilling!

It's funny that a source which everyone uses could be so depressing.
Is it bad that I find some evil amusment out of this?

I would love for there to be an entire thesarus brimming with pessimist entries like this one, with a snappy title to both present the product and make a total mockery of everything it contains. Is anyone else thinking "Emosaurus Rex"?

I use the thesaurus consistently when I write. It is the best tool a poet can use. As a song writer, I also consider you to be a poet, since your lyrics are the most inspiring poems I have ever heard and they reach their full potential by being put to music.

I think one of the webmaster's was a tad depressed that day, perhaps ?
I simply adore reading about the untrodden new songs your writing.

I'm going to adopt your words for moment, there is nothing to properly convey that I am laughing aloud as I'm typing this. (And re-reading this.)
The more I read on this intriguing blog of yours the more enraptured I get.
As you can see I am completly taking advantage of thesaurus.com right now, haha!

Oh, and I don't doubt the religious right and neo-conservatives will bring everything up soon.
Haha.

Victoria :)

P.s. I should really start talking/typing more like this.

I just had to go to thesaurus.com to check that for myself. And as I read that, I sort of laughed, yet felt depressed at the same time. Hmm, strange. Well thanks for the uplifting blog entry, Shawn. Kidding. The song will most likely be a poetic masterpiece.

I took a screencap (which blogger forbids me from posting for whatever reason) of my amusing encounter with 'tomorrow' whilst perusing the thesaurus widget in Dashboard: "'Tomorrow' could not be found."

dear Shawn,

I once read a book about Mexico because I am going there this summer. there was a warning in the book about the use of the word "mañana." The direct English translation is tomorrow. However, in Mexico, tomorrow does not mean the "day after today," it simply means "not today." I often wish it was that way in English.

just thought it was an interesting piece of information. in case you were ever arranging a meeting with a Mexican. or writing a song in Spanish. what a lame comment this is.

Ha. I laughed my ass off at that one.
I find pessimism amusing.
I must stop reading your blog when my family is home. My hyena laugh is beginning to disturb them.
I n regard to the religious right taking over the world ect ect...
I would be interested to hear your (Shawn's) and anyone else who comment's thoughts on this topic. I myself am a Christian who is often sickened at times frightened by the American Fundamentalist Christians.
But then again, the other side of the spectrum makes me pretty nervous as well.
Politics and religion seem to breed extreme view points.

By the way, in regards to this...

Oh! I want to ask-- does anyone work for/have friend/relative who is an editor of a magazine, or run a book site that might be interested in writing/running a story or mention on the author George Saunders and our song based on one of his stories?

I don't actually run a book website, but me and some friends run http://fillthevoidwebzine.com/
It's a music-oriented website, but if you're willing, I would love to write the proposed article.

(this may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's just another place to see if anyone shares my views)
Personally, I don't like nor believe in religion. At some point I'm sure it did more good than bad and I'm sure it has in some form helped a lot of people, but to me all it seems to do now is breed hate and Hitler-istic thoughts.
"My gods bigger than your god!" (I think my art teacher said that)
I'm not against God. I believe in God or some form of powerful something atleast. Religion is man made, the bible is man made, and kids going to hell becuase they're not baptised is bullshit.
(I just finished reading "Inherit The Wind" unlike every other kid in my class, I liked the book a lot. Anyone else here read it by chance?)

Note to Thesaurus.com:
What happened to plain and simple "the day after today"...?
Isn't that, in effect, what tomorrow really is?

I'm still coming to terms with the whole tomorrow/never thing too.

Anyway thanks for the heads up on this.... Now I know what Thesaurus.com is REALLY like!
