By the way, I am Shawn, and I write and play in a band called the Matches. I am both reticent and curious toward keeping a public correspondence such as this one. Let's call my daily posts to come an experiment of sorts. I can scarcely imagine what I might divulge worthy of your reading, yet perhaps the point of this all is to share a subtle conciousness with the like of mind... I hold breath.
In other updates, I am pleased to announce that recently in New Orleans, I found a proper piano for the famed and unfortunate 46 foot tall pianist.

Play Maestro! Play us away from here!

nice!
I feel you have perhaps a little more to share via 'blogging' than most. Thus something might perhaps be worthy of our reading, you are in a fantabulous band afterall.
Hello Shawn from the Matches.
I am Eryn, from...uhh...Newcastle.
What a lovely blog you have here.
Draw me a picture. :)

Very nice work indeed you must have searched long and hard to discover such a piano. I admire your artwork and music very much so. The Matches are my favorite band =) Have a great day/night.

Isnt this awesome? It's like an all-access pass into your head.
Sweet.
And here I thought I would be getting authentic afghans and doilies... Tricked, yet again. I am happy to say this is a tad more interesting. Yardsale indeed...
lol i like it.
but its sideways.
still, i wish i had a giant piano.

haha, i love you!
Great idea for the blogs. Your inspirational and very creative. great work! and i LOVE The Matches!!!!!
Yeah, so the video made me laugh, the picture made me go "wait what...?" and all your written words made me think/smile/etc...so I deem you worthy of what you asked for...
Hi!!1one!!!eleven1!1!!!!
~Stefanie
That's rather nifty, if I do say so myself.
You posted this at 11:11, so make yourself a wish! I am excited for this little glimpse into the mind of a member of my favorite band.
I just got off from a nine hour shift at Denny's (silly graveyard), so I apologize that I am not very prolific at the moment.
Rock on.
I must say, I'm rather surprised there're still no comments on your posts. Hm. I caught you guys in Melbourne and the gig was awesome, apart from the guy who accidentally shoved the mic at you.
Anyway, on to the post, interesting piano you've got there. ;) And yep, I'll be sure to keep tuning in to this blog.
bjork just had a new cd come out if you're interested.. i saw her listed as one of your favorites.

Yay Shawn... I am looking forward to seeing new art up here...

sweet garage
Haha, it took me a good couple times looking at that to tell it was a garage door.
First comment wooo!
That's sweet! Where in NOLA was that?
Where in NOLA was that? Cool pic.
hello mr. shawn!i met you last wednesday in columbus, i was the kid in the heartcore shirt with the blonde hair. anyways, pianist is a funny word.
-much love.
oh fastidious mind,
where do i place
these thoughts
that you tease
and you taunt
all my circuits
for making and
breaking
in some form of
acceptable
attainable aspirition
to vitiate
my senses?
you have a beautiful eye
for the world of cheshire cats
and roads less traveled
though what i say means
nothing.
-la-
the manner in which you string together words is striking. (:
that piano of yours is very clever.
oh my goodness! what a piano!
this should be an awesome experiment...and i want to see more stuff on the oxen blog, too!!
the impotent pianist should get his pituitary gland checked. the discovery channel told me that's what causes unnatural heights in people, and also if it goes unchecked, he might die a painful death in a hospital bed where his feet are hanging off the end.
maybe it's like one of those pianos from the movie "Big". :P
I would like to live in your brain. Or maybe something less creepy.
ps you should really consider another tour in the UK/Europe because we miss you quite terribly.
xoTezzie
Oh, that picture really does look like a piano! Even though a few flat notes are missing...That's pretty cool :P
i met a strange little kid from Oakland, when i was heading to San Fran on Amtrak.
Honestly? Probbaly the most intellectual person that I have met, or from what I read. You are brilliant.
Ha. I love it. How the hell did you see it like that? Did you stare at it for prolonged periods of time?
HEy Shawn, What's up?....This is really Awesome. You rock! ~BYE~
Shawn, you write beautifully... So eloquent and intriguing. I look forward to many more spectacular updates. And the pianoman will be thrilled, I am sure, that you've found his piano! Hahaha. Love ya! <3
I popped you comment cherry c=. Anyways, I absolutely love you! Like I found you guys on the Punk-o-rama 10 DVD. "Chain Me Free" is still my most absoulte favorite song. I plan on checking back quite a bit c=.

I love the piano. Interesting how a simple change in point of view can reveal something completely unexpected.
finally a piano for king kong!
Shawwn! i am in love with the matches!! i never knew you had a blog. thats actually pretty cool. I came to the chicago show, you guys kicked ass. You're on the warped tour right?
why the reticence?
i'm sure kids everywhere
will have their retinas
glued to the screen
because of this.
not to mention they'll
get a kick out of feeling
a bit of a presence behind
a voice or a photograph.
PS - your vocabulary enthralls and inspires me.
That's amazing. I've been contemplating painting a design somewhat like that in my room along the wall.
^^ woohoo.
Lets just hope you don't do what every other musician seems to do, and forget about this completely by next week XD
looking forward to reading more!
-justice from boston.
Hey Shawn! This is very cool, your blog I mean, and I am pretty excited to read your writing everyday. Needless to say, I am a huge Matches fan, and I found this in the message boards of the website. Anyone who can write the lyrics that you do, is extremely talented to say the least, which is why as an aspiring writer, I can't wait to read your work. Check out my blog when you have the chance, and by the way, Bamboozle was fuckin amazing!!!
Your writing never ceases to amaze me.
It reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson.
there shawn! thats a pretty awesome picture! just thought that I would tell that is was cool!
See you in august at warped!

hello. you said to say hi, so I'm saying it because I love the matches so very much. I have to say goodbye now, but much love from your friends in Virginia; we are many. ¡adiós!
sweet perspective.

How is this new effort of your's working out so far? I wonder what would make a writer/musician/artist such as yourself with surely more committments than time permits already devote energy towards connecting with strangers? I'm intrigued.
finally a piano fit for me to play!
*takes leave to New Orleans*
i seriously wish i was 1/8 as cool as you are. huge fan of the matches...your art...etc. i'm an artist too, but your art is like...yeah. MUCH cooler. keep in mind i'm trying to compliment you in the least creepiest way possible, my dear =p
can't wait to see you guys play warped this summer =]
To wait and watch till the face turns red or blue when one is holding their breath? Which shade do you prefer? Nice beginning looking forward to future ramblings.
haha. that's amazing. You are amazing.
that's a sick photo <3
Hello neighbor..
Where did you find such an amazing picture? Is that a garage? Might I ask if you took the picture yourself..?
Hi Shawn!. I really like what you said, "perhaps the point of this all is to share a subtle conciousness with the like of mind." in your most recent post. Maybe this is the point of the internet in general or just life. Perhaps all we can hope for is a subtle consciousness with like minded people. I mean if not that then what is really the point of posting this or of hacing our own blogs? Keep up the amazing creative work you keep putting out
that picture's pretty much brilliant. really cool. it's sort of refreshing that it's awesome and ~*~artistic~* without being one of those, you know, generic artsy photos with 'tarded angles and stupid lighting, but of course it's you so it isn't going to be generic because you're just amazing like that.
I think that was a run on sentence but I can't be arsed to fix it, sorry.
hi. i feel as though your newfound blog needs a comment. for one thing i had no idea you were such a good artist... let alone the artist responsible for the artwork in voices. (amazing album by the way) i always thought that little bunnyman kind of reflected the melancholy and sense of impending doom i got from the album. I've become somewhat of an artfreak and started taking classes and i seriously do not think that i could be that original and/or creative anytime soon. How do you do it?
11:11... make a wish and make it count.
ah Shawn. You never fail to entertain me. Here's to keeping my 2-5 am stint at work scintillating.
Your cookie supplier....Krissy
11:11 pm. what wishes one may wonder.
11:11, make a wish! i really love the photo, there's something about it that strikes me. it's so different from the photos i usually see, lately everything seems to look the same or the variation of the same thing. it's such an interesting view, first glance i wasn't entirely sure what i was looking at, which only seems to add to it.
hey shawn im loving your new blog, and i cant wait for warped. i nearly had a heartattack when i saw you in ap mag, and i also have this quote for you.. i dont remember where i saw it but its awesome and all about you!!
"Harris is all charm, slouched on a couch with a Peter Pan smile and a Johnny Depp face. He's the kind of front man you can't help but fall for, even when he's in drag."
i just love it.
You know, after having read and responded to many entries at this point. I find it interesting that you have chosen this guise of correspondance.
What you have really created is a venue where you share your thoughts with the masses, and then the masses share their thoughts... about your thoughts... with the rest of the mass.
Tellingly impersonal.
